Ms. Hamada is a Representative Partner of Eikoh Patent Firm since 2011. She received her degree in Chemistry from the University of Tokyo, and after graduation, worked for Sagami Chemical Research Center. She registered as a patent attorney in 1983, and then worked for a Japanese patent firm. She has been with Eikoh Patent Firm since 1985, with a three-year hiatus from 2006 to 2009, when she was selected by Japanese Patent Attorneys Association (JPAA) as one of seven judicial research officials having technical backgrounds in the Intellectual Property Division of Tokyo District Court. She was an Executive Director of Japanese Patent Attorneys Association (JPAA) from 2013 to 2015 and was a Vice President of JPAA in 2020-2021. Tatsuya Hanasaka has been served as a partner of the firm since December 2024. He specializes Electrical and Communication Engineering. In addition to his licensure of being a Japanese Patent Attorney, he was also admitted to the U.S. bar at District of Columbia in 2024. Before joining Eikoh, he worked for NGB Corporation as a foreign patent expert, followed by his carrer of working for a Japanese patent law firm, where he wrote and prosecute cases of Japanese patent applications. He received his master's degrees in Electrical and Communication Engineering from Tohoku University and Electrical Engineering from Columbia University.
Koji Yokokawa has been served as a partner of the firm since 2024. He specializes in chemistry, especially inorganic chemistry and material chemistry. Before joining Eikoh, he worked for NGB Corporation, where he served as a foreign patent expert. During his career in NGB, he was dispatched as a trainee to Sughrue Mion, PLLC in Washington D.C. and passed the U.S. patent bar exam in 2011. Mr. Yokokawa received his master's degree in Material Chemistry from Graduate School of Engineering, Kyoto University.
Ms. Igarashi joined Eikoh P.C. in 2024 as a trademark attorney. Before joining Eikoh, she worked for Japanese IP firm as a trademark attorney and IP paralegal. She lived in U.S. for 12 years where she finished her high school and received bachelor's degree from Duquesne University. She also received her master's degree from Kokushikan University on IP Law programs.
Mr. Umezawa received his master's degree from Graduate School of Kyoto Institute of Technology. He worked at the JPO in the field of design, initially as a Patent Examiner, an Appeal Examiner, and a Director in the Appeals Department of the JPO. He registered as a Patent Attorney in 2009 and is a counsel of Eikoh Patent Firm since 2011.
Hidetaka KATO has been with Eikoh since 2025. He specializes in mechanical engineering as well as material science. Prior to joining Eikoh, he has experience of working for two domestic patent law firms for total 23 years, where he has handled significant volume of patent cases in a variety of technologies including mechanical devices, controlling devices, information devices, image processing devices and software, and plant engineering. Before transitioning to patent field, Mr. Kato has experience of working in industry, where he designed and developed precision measuring instruments. Mr. Kato received his bachelor’s degree from School of Engineering, Tohoku University.
Mr. Kitajima joined Eikoh Patent Firm in 2013 and was a Partner from 2015 to 2025. He received his degree in Electrical Engineering from Waseda University. He registered as a Patent Attorney in 2013. Before he joined Eikoh Patent Firm in 2013, he worked at the JPO, initially as a Patent Examiner, an Appeal Examiner, and a Director in the Appeals Department of the JPO.
Dr. Kimura joined Eikoh Patent Firm in 2021. He received his doctorate in Engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology. He registered as Patent Attorney in 2011.Before Eikoh, he has a working experience as Patent Examiner in the Japan Patent Office (JPO) for 5 years, followed by experiences of working as Patent Attorney at Japanese patent law firms.
Kazuya Kusunoki has a considerable experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications. He specializes in civil engineering and machine engineering. His prosecution practice focuses in the area of agricultural machines, automotive technologies, and industrial machines. He is also knowledgeable in prosecuting design patent applications, and is a former member of Committee of Design Patent in the Japan Patent Attorneys Association.
Ms. Goto received her master's degree in Micro Systems Engineering from Nagoya University. She joined Eikoh Patent Firm directly after graduation. Then, after she worked for NGB Corporation, Patent Department exclusively on cases related to foreign IP, she rejoined Eikoh Patent Firm in 2016. She registered as a Patent Attorney in 2011.
Yui Kobayashi has been with Eikoh since 2025, after having worked as a technical expert in a Japanese patent law firm. Her technical background includes information and communication technology, electrical and electronic engineering and optics. Prior to her career in intellectual property, she worked as an engineer at one of Japanese leading telecommunication companies, where she involved in designing and operation of network services for companies. She received her master’s degree in engineering from Graduate School of Science and Technology, Keio University.
Ms. Kondo received her master's degree in law from Graduate School of Law, Nihon University. She registered as a Patent Attorney in 2020. Having worked for a Japanese patent law firm for 5 years, she joined Eikoh P.C. in 2024. Her prosecution practice mainly focuses on trademark and its related matters. She also has considerable experiences in handling design applications before the JPO.
Mr. Saito received his master's degree in Electronic Information Engineering form Graduate School of Hokkaido University. After he worked for a major Japanese electronics manufacture and a Japanese patent firm, he registered as a Patent Attorney in 2015. He joined Eikoh Patent Firm in 2019.
Mr. Shinoda received his master's degree in Crystal Materials Engineering from Nagoya University. He joined Eikoh Patent Firm directly after graduation and registered as a patent attorney in 2014. Having served as a foreign patent expert at NGB Corporation, where he was dispatched to Sughrue Mion Firm in Washington D.C. as a trainee, he restarted his career of a patent attorney at Eikoh frrom 2020.
Ms. Takamaru joined Eikoh P.C. in 2024. She specializes in biotechnology and chemistry. Before joining Eikoh, she worked for NGB Corporation for 4 years as a foreign patent expert. Her working experience also includes a stint in Germany, where she served as a patent translator. She received her master's degree in agricultural science from Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Science, The University of Tokyo, where she was recognized with the highest distinction upon graduation.
Mr. TAKATA graduated from Soka University, Faculty of Economics, Department of Economics. He registered as a Patent Attorney in 2009. He joined Eikoh Patent Firm in 2018, where he represents primarily trademark-related issues before the JPO.
Mr. Hagiwara graduated from Toyo University, Department of Mechanical Engineering. He worked for a major Japanese electronics manufacture and a Japanese patent firm. He registered as a Patent Attorney in 2010 and is a counsel of Eikoh Patent Firm.
Kaiki HATA has been with Eikoh since 2025. His practices mainly focus on searching, filing and prosecuting trademark cases. Before joining Eikoh,,he worked as a trademark attorney for 4 years at a Japanese patent law firm, where he handled wide range of cases for various clients including small companies and a worldwide manufacturing company. He received a Master’s degree in Law from the Graduate School of Law at the University of Osaka.
Wei graduated from Beijing Language and Culture University in 2009 and obtained a Master's degree from the Graduate School of Law at Waseda University in 2011, specializing in intellectual property law. He began working at a renowned patent firm in Tokyo in 2011 and later transferred to the Trademark Department of NGB Corporation in 2013. As a team leader in the Trademark Department, he handled overseas trademark rights and dispute cases for Japanese companies. He passed the Chinese Judicial Examination in 2015 and registered as a Japanese patent and trademark attorney in 2022. From October 2024, he started working as a Japanese trademark attorney at Eikoh P.C. and simultaneously engaged in activities with the Japan Patent Attorneys Association's International Activities Center, including exchanges with the China Trademark Association. Wei is proficient in English, Chinese, and Japanese.
Dr. Furudate received her doctorate in Biochemistry from Tokyo Institute of Technology. She registered as a Patent Attorney in 2003, and worked for a Japanese patent firm. She joined Eikoh Patent Firm in 2006.
Mr. Higuchi received his master's degree in Electronic-Mechanical Engineering. He worked for a major Japanese automobile parts manufacture and a Japanese patent firm. He registered as a Patent Attorney in 1999 and is a counsel of Eikoh Patent Firm.
